Le site avant intervention.

The Jurassic museum of con­tem­por­ary art in Moutier needed a recon­ver­sion and an exten­sion for chan­ging exhib­i­tions. The Jura is a determ­in­a­tion of a geo­lo­gic­al region in France and Switzerland with the typ­ic­al bright lime­stone. The idea was to cre­ate a rela­tion­ship of the artspace to this region by using the geo­lo­gic­al con­di­tion. (Former ocean soils com­pacted and pushed op to the sur­face of the earth). To intensi­fy the sense of mater­i­al­ity, the new wing was made out of the same sub­stance as the exist­ing villa and the per­gola, a warm col­oured lime­stone of a stone quarry nearby, it was grin­ded and mixed with white cement to pour con­crete walls which were until it’s inner centre in a real rela­tion to the region the art of the museum comes from.
